A Special Moment at the 2026 Oldtimer Grand Prix

A successful race weekend and a memorable reunion at the Nürburgring: During the 2026 BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix, Rennarzt Dr. Med. Karl R. Schuster met his long-time companion Uwe Alzen.

For Alzen, the weekend was a very special one. After almost four years without a racing appearance, the former DTM and STW driver returned to the cockpit – and in a car closely connected to his own motorsport history.

Driving the striking Paulaner Opel Vectra STW from 1998, Alzen competed in the Super Touring Revival. Already in the first race on Saturday, he showed that he had lost none of his speed: Alzen took the overall victory and also won the STW 2000 class.

Back in a Car from His Own Racing Career

The Opel Vectra STW is far from unfamiliar territory for Uwe Alzen. Back in 1998, he raced a similar car in the Super Touring Car Cup and finished the season third overall.

Nearly three decades later, returning to the wheel of such a racing car made his Nürburgring comeback a remarkable journey through motorsport history.

Historic racing, however, is anything but a leisurely demonstration. The cars are driven under real racing conditions and demand concentration, fitness and precision from their drivers. Especially after a longer break from competition, good physical preparation is an important part of such an appearance.

A Long-Standing Connection Between Motorsport and Medicine
