Doctors in Motorsport

Dr. Karl R. Schuster, Matthias W. Hötzel and their colleagues are known as “Rennärzte”. Since the late 1980s, they have been dedicated to the health and safety of racing drivers. Their work extends beyond medical care. They advocate for improved safety measures in motorsport and support drivers around the world.

Their work expanded over the years. They supported prominent racing drivers such as Jochen Mass, treated injuries and carried out medical examinations. Their commitment went beyond medical care alone, as they also helped to make the sport safer.

The doctors supported racing drivers around the world, including at famous events such as the 24-hour race and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Their work was recognised throughout Europe and at locations such as Mosport in Canada, Imola in Italy and Goodwood in the United Kingdom.

The work of Dr. Karl R. Schuster, Matthias W. Hötzel and their colleagues in motorsport was not limited to medicine. They helped to improve safety measures and raise awareness of the physical and psychological demands placed on racing drivers.

For those who would like to explore the subject in greater depth, the complete and detailed article by Verena Au about stories from the world of motorsport can be read here. It provides a comprehensive insight into the fascination of motorsport and the role of doctors in this field.

Burkhard Bechtel congratulates Marco Werner to 40 years of Motorsport!
